Indexing Biotic Interactions in GBIF data

چکیده
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF 2022a) has indexed more than 2 billion occurrence records from 70,147 datasets. These datasets often include "hidden" biotic interaction data because biodiversity communities use the Darwin Core standard (DwC, Wieczorek et al. 2012) in different ways to document interactions. In this study, we extracted interactions GBIF using an approach similar that employed Biotic Interactions (GloBI; Poelen 2014) and summarized results. Here aim present estimation of available GBIF, showing claims can be automatically found GBIF. Our results suggest much gained by increased focus on development tools help index curate existing Combined with standardization best practices for sharing interactions, such as initiative plant-pollinators (Salim 2022), rapidly contribute meet open principles (Wilkinson 2016). Inferring biotic interactions from proxies.
Inferring biotic interactions from functional, phylogenetic and geographical proxies remains one great challenge in ecology. We propose a conceptual framework to infer the backbone of biotic interaction networks within regional species pools. First, interacting groups are identified to order links and remove forbidden interactions between species. Second, additional links are removed by examina...

BIOTIC INTERACTIONS INFLUENCING SHRUB ESTABLISHMENT ON AN ATLANTIC COAST BARRIER ISLAND. Elucidating mechanisms influencing the establishment of woody species is essential for understanding community dynamics and successional processes on barrier islands. The relative intensity of facilitation and inhibition of grasses on seedling establishment of two woody species common to Atlantic Coast barr...

A re biotic interactions, such as competition and predation, stronger in the tropics than at higher latitudes? Biologists have long speculated that more intense interactions tend to occur at lower rather than at higher latitudes as a result of year-round warm and wet conditions near the equator, particularly in lowland tropical rainforests (1). This idea is now well established in the ecologica...
متن کاملBiotic interactions and plant invasions.
Introduced plant populations lose interactions with enemies, mutualists and competitors from their native ranges, and gain interactions with new species, under new abiotic conditions. From a biogeographical perspective, differences in the assemblage of interacting species, as well as in abiotic conditions, may explain the demographic success of the introduced plant populations relative to consp...
متن کاملBiotic interactions in freshwater benthic habitats
We summarized studies on the impacts and scale effects of negative (competition, predation, parasitism, herbivory) and positive (mutualism, commensalism, indirect facilitation) species interactions in freshwater benthic habitats since ,1986 and focused on organisms with mainly or entirely aquatic life cycles. Benthologists publishing in J-NABS have contributed robustly to our overall knowledge ...
